If you want a government job in Madhya Pradesh such as data entry operator, assistant grade-3 or a similar clerical post, you will often see one requirement in the notification: a valid CPCT score. This guide explains the CPCT exam in simple words and gives students in Sagar a practical plan to prepare.
Note: exam rules and dates can change. Always confirm the latest details on the official website, cpct.mp.gov.in, before applying.

The two parts you must prepare
1. Computer proficiency
Expect questions on computer fundamentals, operating systems, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, internet and email, basic networking, and general aptitude and reasoning. The best preparation is hands-on: when you have actually used Excel formulas or mail merge, MCQs become easy.
2. Typing (English and Hindi)
Typing is where most candidates lose marks. Different posts need different minimum speeds, so aim to type comfortably above the requirement. For Hindi, learn the keyboard layout the exam uses (check the official notification) and practise it from day one rather than switching layouts later.
A 30-day CPCT practice plan
- Days 1 to 7: correct finger placement on the home row, 30 minutes of English and 30 minutes of Hindi typing daily. Accuracy first, speed later.
- Days 8 to 15: computer fundamentals and MS Office topics, 40 MCQs a day, with practical work on a computer for each topic.
- Days 16 to 23: timed typing tests; track words per minute and errors in a notebook.
- Days 24 to 30: full mock tests in exam-like conditions, revise weak topics, and keep typing daily.
Consistency matters more than long hours. One focused hour every day beats six hours on a Sunday.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Looking at the keyboard while typing: it limits speed permanently.
- Ignoring Hindi typing until the last week.
- Only reading theory without using MS Office practically.
- Not checking the official notification for the latest pattern and dates.
